We have prereleased our EP via the website, and have some good positive feedback from our network of indie web friends (that sounds incredibly arsey sorry!). We'll have to see how it all pans out, but things are looking promising. However, whilst they like the music, not everyone is keen on the name "Mutt Ramon". In fact, someone even gave some other suggestions, including:
"The Parsnips" (Nice if roasted, but not very musical)
"The Orkneys" (Ok if we were Scottish maybe)
or "Throw a dart at a dictionary and it will be better than Mutt Ramon"
(bit long that one, maybe we could abbreviate it to just Mutt Ramon).
Now I must admit, when Mutt first came up with the name, saying that he thought it was an anagram of Matt Munro, I wasn't completely convinced. For one thing, Matt Munro spelt his name Matt Monro. Also, what does he have to do with anything anyway? We could equally have been called "Poor Mercy" (Perry Como) or "Jet Moons" (Tom Jones) or even "Germlike, prudent bench" (Englebert Humperdinck). Somehow Mutt Ramon sounds better now doesn't it?
Anyway, it's grown on me. It's our name now. It's pretty unique, and whilst not quite a Googlewhack, it doesn't come up with many hits, and the top ones are ours. You can't say that for "The Parsnips", and we shouldn't suffer the same fate as "The The", who no longer exist on the net, as it's impossible to search for them (search engines filter out "The"). We've also put quite a bit of time effort and even investment into the name (.coms don't come for free and "www.parsnips.com" seems to have already been snapped up). Also, Mutt is now Mutt and I am Ramon, and that's the way it is. So I'm afraid the name stays. Until we change it to "Sobbing cry*" for the US market that is...
